In Bat Boy: The Musical, a young boy with pointy ears is found in a cave. This
is the story of his reintegration into society as he struggles to find a place
in a world that shuns him. The enduring popularity of the show is due in part to
its delicate balance of biting satire and gentle comedy with a story and
characters that are strong enough for a serious dramatic piece.

| Black Sheep Theatre is an independent Ottawa-based theatre company. The mandate
is simple: There are plays which should be seen by Ottawa audiences, but are
not. These works simply do not fit within the mandates of the established Ottawa
theatre companies, whether professional or amateur. Black Sheep Theatre strives
to get these works onto Ottawa stages, works from local playwrights (Craig
Poile’s The Prize, Dave Dawson’s Cabin Fever) and from established international
writers (John Patrick Shanley’s The Big Funk: A Casual Play, and Stephen
Sondheim’s Assassins). These are plays of poetry, plays of beauty, plays with a
little bit of an edge to them, but more than anything else, plays which deserve
to be seen. |
